What is a Stag Do?

The ‘stag do’ is a UK version and name for the bachelor party that is held for the groom to be before the wedding day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor_party. It is traditionally thought of as a chance for the future husband to dabble in things that the wife of a married man would not typically approve or allow him to do! The traditional view that a married man must be responsible and grown up gives rise to much adolescent playing out on a stag night or more commonly a stag weekend.

Stag Dos and Stag Nights tend to be arranged by the best man and he traditionally thinks of the stag do ideas. Stag do's involve a gathering of the grooms male friends and family. There tends to be much drinking, gambling and teasing and quite often there involves a stripper to embarrass the groom somewhat in front of the stag parties guests. A stag do is really a rite of passage for the husband to be and can quite often end with a prank at his expense.A Hen Do is the female version of a Stag Weekend

The first stag do is thought to have arisen from the ancient Greeks in the fifth century BC when soldiers would have a stag party and celebrate a fellow soldiers marriage the eve of the wedding, involving much alcohol.
